Aashiqui 2, made on a minimal budget went on to surpass the 100 crore gross mark. Starring relatively lesser known faces of Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, the film is one of the year’s most successful ones keeping in mind the venture’s return on investment.
Though the critics found the film’s overdose of melodrama unbearable, but the audiences found the fodder of romance brilliant. The film managed to maintain its hold on both overseas markets and Indian screens well. Despite over four weeks after its release, the film maintained its escalating pace by not letting its repeat audiences rate drop. Appreciated as a heart wrenching story, the film though lags shortly behind the 100 crore mark at domestic box office, its cumulative earnings including global collections has already exceeded the 100 crore income.
